Prithvi Shaw set to play for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy 2024 after six-month break

Opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is all set to play for the Mumbai team in the Ranji Trophy 2024. Prithvi Shaw has returned to the Mumbai squad for the domestic tournament after six months. The right-handed batsman missed the field due to a knee injury and recovery process.

Prithvi Shaw sustained a knee ligament injury in August last year. He underwent treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for almost six months and could not play competitive cricket. He was also expected to miss the entire Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season.

Due to rehabilitation at NCA, the Mumbai batsman could not participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year. The 24-year-old sustained the knee injury during England’s one-day championship. He represented Northamptonshire in the tournament and suffered the injury in a clash against Durhan. Shaw also left the tournament midway due to injury.

Mumbai will miss Sarfaraz Khan in the Ranji Trophy 2024

Meanwhile, Mumbai will be short of their crucial batter Sarfaraz Khan in Ranji Trophy 2024. The wicketkeeper-batter has been added to India’s squad for the ongoing Test series against England. Notably, Khan is an uncapped player and can make his Test debut in the series.

Mumbai is part of Elite Group B in Ranji Trophy 2024 along with 7 other teams. They take the top spot in the points table with 3 victories across 4 games. The Ajinkya Rahane & Co. have 20 points. Other teams in the same pool are Andhra, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Kerala, and Assam.

After the Ranji Trophy 2024, Prithvi Shaw will also participate in IPL 2024. The right-handed batter is part of Delhi Capitals (DC) in the tournament. The franchise retained him for the next season. Last year, Shaw failed to impress with the bat and was dropped from the playing 11 midway as DC gave a miserable show in the end.
