Former India National Cricket Team captain and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, Sourav Ganguly, has expressed no surprise over the contract extension of head coach Rahul Dravid.
The tenure of the Rahul Dravid-led coaching staff consisting of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and fielding coach T Dilip came to an end following the conclusion of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
There were plenty of reports and rumors of Rahul Dravid not continuing with the Indian team as head coach and VVS Laxman taking over the charge. However, those reports and rumors were put to rest after the BCCI announced the extension of contracts for head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip.
Reacting to the development, Rahul Dravid’s former teammate Sourav Ganguly said that he is not at all surprised with BCCI’s faith in Dravid.
“I am not surprised that BCCI has shown faith in Rahul Dravid. It was always a case of whether he wanted it or not,” said Sourav Ganguly on Rahul Dravid’s extension as head coach, as quoted by PTI.
Selectors Want Fresh Faces – Sourav Ganguly On Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane
On November 30, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Test, ODI, and T20I squads of the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming South Africa tour.
One of the biggest talking points coming out of the squad announcement was the non-selection of veteran batters Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara in the Test squad. Talking about the duo’s exclusion, Sourav Ganguly said that they have contributed a lot, but now the selectors are looking at fresh faces for the future.
“Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane had enormous success for India, but selectors want fresh faces and that’s the way it is,” Sourav Ganguly said on the duo’s exclusion from Test squad for South Africa tour.
