The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has been ended a few days back. Team India ended their journey as runners-up. In 2024, the T20 World Cup is scheduled. The tournament is set to be on the big stage on June 3. Before that, India’s T20 Captaincy was a big concern. After exceptional captaincy in the World Cup, BCCI wants Rohit Sharma to lead the team in the T20 World Cup. According to sources, Rohit Sharma will be captaining team India in the tournament.
India’s Captain for T20 World Cup:
The T20 World Cup will be happening in June 2024. West Indies and the US will be hosting the tournament. Before this, India’s leader in this tournament is in a dicey situation. After brilliant captaincy in the World Cup 2023, BCCI wants Rohit Sharma to lead the team. According to sources, “Rohit Sharma wanted the BCCI to immediately decide about the captaincy of the 2024 T20 WC and BCCI has decided Rohit Sharma will be the captain in T20 WC.”
Rohit Sharma hasn’t played any T20 match since the T20 World Cup semifinal in 2022. In the semifinal, England defeated India, and India was knocked out of the tournament. Even now, India will be heading for a South Africa tour. In that tour, three T20 matches are scheduled. Rohit Sharma has been opted out of that series. After the World Cup, India is playing a five-match T20 series against Australia. Rohit Sharma is on rest and not playing the series.
India’s South Africa Tour and Future Programme:
After the World Cup, India is playing a five-match T20 series against Australia on home soil. The last two matches are left. After that, Team India will travel to South Africa. They will play 3 T20s, 3 ODIs and 2 test matches. The T20s will start on December 10. The second and third T20 are scheduled on December 12th and 14th. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will not be available in the white ball format of the series. They will join the team for two test matches.
After that, Team India is all set to play, three T20s with Afghanistan. The first T20 will take place on January 11. The second and third T20 will be played on the 14th and 17th of January. After that, as per reports, IPL 2024 will start. That 2 months will be contained with power-packed T20 cricket. Just before the T20 World Cup, that will be a good opportunity.
