Damien Martyn Takes Down English Cricket After Inclusion Of ‘Bazball’ In Collins Dictionary

Former Australian cricketer Damien Martyn recently responded to the decision to include the word ‘Bazball’ in the Collins dictionary. Damien Martyn emphasized that the aggressive style of cricket has been a part of the Australian cricket culture over the decades.

On Wednesday, the term ‘Bazball’ was officially added to the Collins dictionary. It originated from England’s aggressive red-ball cricket strategy, as termed by the English media. The English Test team adopted the aggressive approach under head coach Brendon McCullum.

In the dictionary, ‘Bazball’ is categorized as a noun and is defined as “a style of Test cricket in which the batting side attempts to gain the initiative by playing in a highly aggressive manner.”

Damien Martyn Reacted To Inclusion Of ‘Bazball’ In Dictionary

Damien Martyn stated that aggressive cricket has long been a part of Australia’s cricket culture after ‘Bazball’ made its debut in the Collins English Dictionary.

“Australian cricket has been doing that for decades.” Damien Martyn tweeted.

I Don’t Have Any Idea What “Bazball” Is – Brendon McCullum

Both England Test cricket coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes have expressed their dislike for the term ‘Bazball.’ McCullum openly stated that he does not understand the term and finds it silly.

“I don’t have any idea what “Bazball” is. I don’t really like that silly term that people are throwing out there,” McCullum had said last year.

Very Disappointed – Jos Buttler

English skipper Jos Buttler mentioned that they have struggled to maintain momentum throughout the tournament. Buttler highlighted that they are falling short of their best despite having quality players in the team.

“Very disappointed. At the halfway stage, chasing 230 seeing how well we bowled as well, we should have fancied ourselves. Same old story. I wasn’t sure if the dew would come or not. Just the gut feel said that we had to chase. I think we’ve bowled this tournament to create pressure for wickets. If we were given 230 at the halfway stage we’d have been happy with that.”

“I wanted to soak some pressure up and break that momentum that India had. It wasn’t about scoreboard pressure but about coming through that phase. We’re falling short whichever way we’re doing it at the moment. Some top players and we’re a long way short of our best.”

England has been poor in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, and they suffered their fourth consecutive loss. England is currently at the bottom of the points table with just one victory out of six games. They have slim mathematical chances to advance to the semi-final stages.
