Pakistan are very much in contention for the semi-finals of the ICC World Cup 2023. They displayed a staggering performance against Bangladesh in match 31 of the tournament and made sure that they kept themselves in the race for the business end of the tournament. With the win, they are now 5th on the points table.
Pakistan have two matches remaining in the ICC World Cup 2023. They will first face New Zealand on 4th November and then will take on England in their last league game of the tournament on 11th November. To keep themselves in the hunt, they first need to win both games.
Wins in their last two league games, however, will not be enough for Pakistan. They need some other results to go their way as well. The Babar Azam-led side would want Afghanistan to lose one of their remaining games against Australia and South Africa.
They would then be backing South Africa and Sri Lanka to beat New Zealand as then they will be favourites to qualify for the semi-finals. Lastly, they would want India to beat Sri Lanka and the Netherlands. If all the results go their way, they would then make it into the semi-finals.
Here is the qualification scenario for Pakistan:
S.No | Qualification Scenario |
1. | Pakistan to beat New Zealand and England |
2. | Australia or South Africa to defeat Afghanistan |
3. | South Africa and Sri Lanka defeat New Zealand |
4. | India to beat Sri Lanka and Netherlands |
