Most Runs updated after IND vs AFG Match 9 of the World Cup

India registered a record-breaking victory against Afghanistan in the match 9 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. India has scored its second win of the ongoing tournament while Afghanistan’s loss came as a second time defeat for the defending champions. After having won the toss, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi chose to bat first hoping to put pressure on the opponent side. Having chased 272/8 in the first innings, India was exposed to a median target initially.

Just as the second innings began, Rohit Sharma reckoned on his skillful ability and went all dominant with the batting. His elegant sixes took little time to combine up in a 131-run century off 84 balls at a strike rate of 155.95. With this century, Rohit also broke Chris Gayle’s record of most international sixes in the history of the World Cup.

Retaining the first two positions

And yet again, New Zealand’s Devon Conway and England’s Dawid Malan could not be replaced by any other batsmen out there. They are still ruling at the top having amassed centuries for 152 and 140 respectively. The new batsman to enter the chart is Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who is officially known as the “six-machine” of team India. He is followed up by Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan for the same score of 131 but with a decreased run-rate. Among other cricketers in the list, Sri Lanka’s Sadeera Samarawickrama and South Africa’s R Van Der Dussen also share the same score at 108 with Sadeera preceding Dussen for an increased run-rate.

Afghanistan’s show-up

Having chased a target of 272, Afghanistan failed to restrict India within the delivered target. Though the batsmen couldn’t perform up to the mark, Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid Khan took down Rohit Sharma, the most crucial wicket for Afghanistan and Ishan Kishan. Also India’s Jasprit Bumrah went up to record his best bowling stats at 4/39.
