Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma urge BCCI for white-ball rest against South Africa.

After the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, India is all set to have a reset and go back on its track to prepare for other tournaments. While the team is currently facing Australia in a 5-match T20I series, it will kick off a month-long tour of South Africa and indulge in T20I, ODI and Test series. Team India will leave for South Africa on December 6 as the series is set to commence on December 10 with the Test series being played in late December. 

A major update on Rohit and Virat’s white-ball feature

Ahead of these developments, and after the 2023 World Cup, skipper Rohit Sharma had decided to take a break from the T20I format and put his primary focus on Test cricket instead. Recently, Virat Kohli also approached the BCCI and informed the Board about his unavailability in the squad’s selection process against South Africa in the T20 series. 

Today, the management has finally announced the Indian squad for the upcoming series against South Africa with deciding on Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s T20I stint in the future. The BCCI had initiated discussions with Rohit Sharma about whether he wanted to continue with the white-ball format or not and it has turned out that both the players are likely to skip the white-ball series against South Africa

Counting on notes

The official Twitter handle of the BCCI shared some notes after holding discussions and announcing the squad for Team India against South Africa. In the Tweet, the BCCI remarked “Mr Rohit Sharma and Mr. Virat Kohli had requested the Board for a break from the white-ball leg of the tour.” A second note said “Mr Mohd. Shami is currently undergoing medical treatment and his unavailability is subject to fitness.”

While drawing attention towards Rohit And Virat’s unavailability in the white-ball series against South Africa, it also provided a major update about Mohammad Shami undergoing a medical treatment and that he will be playing the series only when he has fully recovered.
