ICC World Cup Points Table 2023: Australia, on Friday, beat Pakistan by 62 runs to register their second win in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Asked to bat first, Australia posted a mammoth total of 367 for 9 in the allotted 50 overs. The architects of the huge score were their openers, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh. Both the players smashed quickfire centuries and shared a mammoth stand of 259 runs for the first wicket.
Warner smashed 163 runs off just 124 balls with the help of 14 fours and 9 sixes. On the other hand, Marsh scored 121 runs off 108 balls with the help of 10 fours and 9 sixes. Shaheen Afridi finally gave Pakistan the much-needed breakthrough in the 34th over when he dismissed Marsh. And Pakistan went on to pull things back towards the end.
Afridi starred with the ball, taking 5 for 54 off 10 overs. For Australia, only Marcus Stoinis (21) and Josh Inglis (13) managed to reach the double-digit mark after Warner and Marsh. In reply, Pakistan made a solid start with the bat. Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq shared 134 runs for the first wicket before Stoinis dismissed both of them in quick succession.
Shafique departed for 64 while Imam scored 70. Captain Babar Azam, who scored 50 in the last outing against India, failed to get going and departed after scoring only 18. A 57-run stand between Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan then steadied the ship before Pat Cummins dismissed the former for 30 to put Australia in command once again. From there, Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually all out for 305.
