Team India captain Rohit Sharma has revealed that the team management was contemplating changing the batting order during the game against Bangladesh.
India and Bangladesh locked horns in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on Thursday (October 19) in Pune. In-form India thrashed the Bangla Tigers by 7 wickets to register their fourth win in a row in the competition. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 256/8 in the allotted 50 overs.
Their openers Litton Das (66) and Tanzid Hasan (51) top-scored for Bangladesh and added 93 runs for the first wicket. In reply, Team India chased down the total inside 42 overs by losing just 3 wickets. Virat Kohli starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 103 while opener Shubman Gill (53) scored a fifty. Captain Rohit Sharma also played a crucial knock of 48 runs.
Rohit Sharma’s batting order revelation:
Speaking to Shubman Gill after India’s fourth win in the World Cup, Rohit Sharma revealed that the team management was thinking of sending allrounder Shardul Thakur ahead of designated No. 5 batter KL Rahul. But Rohit Sharma had to make a last-minute change to the plan after Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal. The dismissal did not give Shardul enough time to get ready.
”Wahi Ball Pe Out Hua Vo. Ussi Ball Pe Maine Bola Tha Shardul Tu Jayega. Jab Tak Vo Niche Aaya… (He got out on that ball only. I said on that ball only that Shardul, You will go but by the time he went down…),” said Rohit Sharma in a video share by the BCCI.
“Fans Bohot Disappointed The. Shardul ka Batting Sabko Dekhna Hai (Fans were really disappointed. Everyone wants to see Shardul’s batting).
“Aayega. Bade Match Ka Player Hai Vo (It will come, he is a big match player,” he added.
In-form Team India will be taking on New Zealand in their next match. The match is scheduled to be played at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday (October 22). Both India and New Zealand have won their opening four games. They are the only teams who are yet to lose in the competition and would be looking to extend their winning run.
