The 20th Match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 took place between Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars. The game between the two heavyweights took place at the Adelaide Oval and it saw the Stars winning the game and bagging two important points.
Asked to bat first, Adelaide Strikers were off the stupendous start as Matthew Short (56) and D’Arcy Short (25) added 44 runs for the opening partnership inside the powerplay. They put the opposition under pressure until the latter got out in the 6th over.
The dismissal of D’Arcy Short was a blessing in disguise for the Adelaide Strikers as after that Chris Lynn (83*) arrived at the crease and changed the course of the game. He took attack to the bowlers and smacked them all over the park. He added 93-run partnership with Short as the duo played great shots in their innings.
While Lynn batted till the end, Adam Hose (14) and Jamie Overton (19*) made vital contributions as well in the end that powered Adelaide Strikers to a total of 205 runs on the board. For Melbourne Stars, Glenn Maxwell was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged two wickets.
Chasing the target, Melbourne Stars lost Thomas Rogers (8) early. But opener Dan Lawrence (50) made sure that he took his team off the flying start. He was going great guns until he saw himself getting run out after half a century.
After his wicket, Beau Webster (66*) and skipper Glenn Maxwell (28) took the charge and added 54 runs together in no time. Their partnership brought Melbourne Stars close to the target. Although the skipper lost his wicket, Webster continued batting the same way.
The real blitz came from the bat of Marcus Stoinis, who came out all guns blazing and played a blinder. The all-rounder scored an unbeaten 55 runs off 19 balls and took his team home. He slammed 4 sixes and 6 fours in his innings to take his team to win.
